The Challenge
Our challenge was to take a 147-year old retail institution and refurbish it completely while at the same time reassuring the store’s loyal clientele that it was ‘business as usual’ throughout the entire construction works. We also needed to keep a very tight rein on budget while ensuring that the client ended up with the very high quality end product they required.
Solution
Our first step was to put plans and procedures in place to enable the store to continue trading during refurbishment works. We then augmented the design team and recruited a specialist contractor with appropriate experience of operating within such restricted working areas.
We developed a highly specific client brief and communicated it clearly and concisely to all member of the project team. We also recommended improvements in the operational process which resulted in time, storage and cost savings.
Outcome
Proof of the quality product delivered is the fact that the volume of retail trading actually increased on completion of the project, while added value was provided by completing the project before programme – an exceptional result in the constrained environment of a major retail outlet.
